Set up 2FA for GitHub on your Mac

GitHub supports authenticator apps for two-factor authentication. Here’s how to set it up with Quick Authenticator on your Mac.

  1. Sign in to GitHub and open the security settings: GitHub security settings

    Path in the English interface: Settings › Password and authentication › Two-factor authentication

  2. Choose to set up an authenticator app. GitHub shows a QR code.
  3. In Quick Authenticator, click + and hold the QR code up to your Mac’s camera, drop a screenshot of it onto the window, or paste the setup key.
  4. Enter the current code from Quick Authenticator to confirm.
  5. Save the backup codes GitHub gives you in a safe place.
