Getting started

How do I open Quick Authenticator?
Click the icon in the menu bar, or press ⌥⌘A in any app and start typing to find a code. You can change the shortcut in Settings › General.
How do I add an account?
Click +, then scan the QR code shown on your screen, hold it up to your Mac’s camera, choose a screenshot or photo of the QR code, or paste a copied QR code image, setup key or link with ⇧⌘V. You can also type the setup key.
Which codes are supported?
Time-based codes (TOTP) with 6 or 8 digits – the kind almost every service uses. Counter-based codes (HOTP) are not supported.

Moving from another app

How do I move my accounts from Google Authenticator?
In Google Authenticator, choose Transfer accounts → Export accounts. Then add a screenshot of each QR code in Quick Authenticator, or scan them with your Mac’s camera. Exports with several QR codes are added one after another.
How do I import from Aegis, 2FAS, Bitwarden, Proton Authenticator or LastPass Authenticator?
Export your accounts from the other app as an unencrypted backup file – Quick Authenticator can’t read password-protected exports. Then choose Settings › Backup › Restore from Backup… and select the file. CSV exports from Apple Passwords, 1Password or Bitwarden work the same way. Delete the exported file afterwards: it contains your secrets in plain text.
How do I move my accounts to another Mac or app?
Use Settings › Backup: back up all accounts to a file (optionally protected with a password) and restore it on another Mac, or export them as QR codes for another authenticator app.

iCloud sync

How do I turn on sync?
Turn on Settings › iCloud › Sync with iCloud on each Mac. All Macs must be signed in to iCloud with the same Apple Account.
Can anyone read my synced accounts?
No. Secrets, notes, service, account name and website are end-to-end encrypted with keys only your devices hold. Neither Apple nor we can read them.
A change doesn’t show up on my other Mac.
Changes from your other Macs arrive when you open Quick Authenticator. To check right away, choose Sync Now in Settings › iCloud.

Security

What happens if I lose my Mac?
With iCloud sync turned on, your accounts are on your other Macs. Keep a backup in a safe place, and always keep the backup codes your services give you when you set up two-factor authentication.
I forgot the password of my backup.
We can’t recover it – the password never leaves your Mac. Make a new backup in Settings › Backup while you still have your accounts.
How does the app lock work?
Turn on Require Touch ID (or a password) in Settings › Security. Quick Authenticator then locks after a period of inactivity, when the screen locks or when your Mac sleeps.

Trial and purchase

How does the free trial work?
Choose Try Free for 4 Weeks when you first open the app. You can use every feature for 28 days. Afterwards your codes are hidden until you buy the full version – your accounts stay safe and you can still export them.
I bought it – how do I use it on my other Mac?
Open Settings › License › Restore Purchases on the other Mac, signed in with the same Apple Account. With Family Sharing, up to six family members can use it.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
