Google Authenticator on Mac

Google doesn’t make a Mac version of Google Authenticator. Quick Authenticator takes over your accounts in one go – using the export QR codes from your phone, without retyping a single key.

Why move your codes to the Mac

When you work on your Mac, reaching for your phone at every login adds up. With Quick Authenticator, press ⌥⌘A, type a few letters and press Return – the code is copied. Your codes are locked with Touch ID, the secrets live in your Mac’s Keychain, and iCloud sync keeps them on all your Macs, end-to-end encrypted.

Move all accounts at once

  1. In Google Authenticator on your phone, open the menu and choose Transfer accounts › Export accounts.
  2. Select the accounts you want to move and continue. Google shows one QR code – or several, if you export many accounts.
  3. In Quick Authenticator, click + and hold your phone up to your Mac’s camera. Scan every QR code of the export; the order doesn’t matter, and Quick Authenticator keeps track of the parts it has received.
  4. Check that the codes in both apps match. Your accounts now work in both – you can keep Google Authenticator as a second copy or remove the accounts there.

Your Mac has no camera? Take a photo of the QR code and drop it onto the Quick Authenticator window instead.

Keep the export private: these QR codes contain the secrets of your accounts. Don’t share them, and delete any photos of them once you’re done.

Coming from another app?

Quick Authenticator also imports unencrypted backups from Aegis, 2FAS, Bitwarden, Proton Authenticator and LastPass Authenticator, as well as CSV files with a one-time-password column. Details are on the support page.
